You can remove a sales tax from an invoice, or add one of your company’s configured tax rates, from the Update Invoice screen. Use this when:

  • A tax was applied that shouldn’t have been, such as a city tax on a customer outside that city.
  • A customer is tax exempt.
  • A required state tax is missing from the invoice.

Before you start

You need admin access. You can only edit sales tax lines on an invoice when all of these are true:

  • The invoice has no payments recorded. Any payment record, even a $0 one, locks the tax lines.
  • The invoice is not archived.
  • The invoice is not on a monthly installment plan.

To add a tax, your company’s sales tax setting must also be turned on. The rate you add must already be set up in your company’s tax rates.

  3. Click red trash can in the Action column.
  4. Review the updated tax amount and invoice total.
  5. Click on the Submit button to save the change.

Is the change tracked?
Yes. Tax edits are recorded in the audit log.

I can’t find the option to edit tax.
Check the restrictions above. If the invoice meets them and you still can’t edit it, contact Spraye Support.
