When managing your rounds and products in Spraye, selecting the correct Application Type (or Application Method) is crucial. The application type tells the system exactly how a product is being applied to a property.

More importantly, it dictates whether Spraye will automatically calculate your product usage or require manual entry from your technicians.

The Two Main Application Types

Spraye categorizes product applications into two primary types to handle inventory tracking and reporting accurately:

1. Blanket Applications

A blanket application means the product is being applied evenly across the entire treated area of the property. Examples include a full lawn granular fertilizer or a pre-emergent liquid spray.

  • How the system handles it: Since the software knows the property's square footage and your product's target rate, it automatically calculates the exact volume or weight of the product used.
  • Technician Action: None required for calculation. The system does the math instantly upon job completion.

2. Spot Applications

A spot application means the product is only applied to specific, targeted problem areas rather than the whole yard. The most common example is spot-spraying weeds during a routine fertilizer visit.

  • How the system handles it: Because weed density varies from lawn to lawn, the software cannot guess how much product was actually sprayed. Therefore, the system defaults the quantity used to 0.
  • Technician Action: Manual entry is required. Technicians must type in the actual amount of product (e.g., ounces or gallons) used while out in the field or during the post-job review.

Comparison Summary

Application TypeExamplesHow Usage is CalculatedDo I Need to Enter Quantities?

SpotSpot SprayManually (Based on actual field usage)Yes. Technicians must enter the amount used.

Why This Matters for Your Reports

If you ever view a round report and notice that a product is listed but shows a 0 quantity, check its application type. If it is set to a "Spot" method, the system is simply waiting for your team to input the real-world numbers from the field to ensure your chemical tracking logs remain 100% accurate.

Pro Tip: If you intend for a product to always calculate automatically, ensure its method is set to a "Blanket" option in your Round Settings.
