This article explains how to manage scheduling when you have multiple technicians or a crew sharing a single vehicle to complete a single route.
Overview
Currently, the system is designed to assign a single route or job to an individual technician. While there isn't a direct "multi-assign" button for a single route at this time, you can manage this scenario using the Crew Leader Method.
The Best Workaround: The Crew Leader Method
When two or more technicians are working out of the same truck, the most efficient approach is to designate one person as the Crew Leader and assign the entire route to them.
How to set this up:
- Choose a Leader: Decide which technician will be driving or responsible for updates on the mobile app for that day (the Primary Technician/Crew Leader).
- Assign the Route: Schedule and optimize the entire route under that Crew Leader's name.
- Communicate with the Team: Inform the second technician (the helper) which truck/leader they are paired with for the day.
Why we recommend this method:
- Clean Dispatch Board: It avoids cluttering your schedule with identical, duplicate routes.
- Accurate GPS & Optimization: The system only has to optimize one route for the vehicle, preventing routing conflicts or duplicate drive-time calculations.
- Single Device Tracking: Only one phone or tablet needs to be active in the truck to mark jobs as "Started" and "Completed," saving battery and data.
Frequently Asked Questions & Troubleshooting
How do I track hours and payroll for the second technician?
Because the second technician isn't assigned to the route on the dispatch board, they will not automatically accumulate job hours from those specific appointments.
- The Fix: Have the helper log their total daily hours manually via your standard timesheet/clock-in tool, rather than relying on job-by-job tracking.
Will the customer see both technicians' names on notifications?
No. Any automated "On My Way" texts or emailed service notifications will only feature the name and details of the Primary Technician (Crew Leader) assigned to the job.
