Spraye + Captivated Integration (2-Way Texting)
Spraye now integrates with Captivated, giving you the option to send Spraye’s automated text notifications through Captivated instead of Spraye’s built-in texting. The main benefit: Captivated supports two-way texting and a shared inbox, so your team can manage replies and ongoing conversations in one place.
Captivated also offers a Google Chrome extension that can sit alongside Spraye in your browser, making it easy to text customers and view message history while you work.
What this integration does
When you enable Captivated in Spraye:
All Spraye automated text notifications are sent through Captivated
Your existing Spraye text notification templates stay the same (you don’t have to rebuild anything)
Customers can reply, turning messages into two-way conversations your team can manage
Captivated inbox behavior (keeps things uncluttered)
To avoid clutter, automated texts sent from Spraye will only show up as an active conversation in Captivated if the customer replies. That way, your Captivated inbox stays focused on conversations that actually need attention.
Why use Captivated?
✅ Two-way texting + centralized conversation management
Captivated supports two-way messaging and provides a platform for managing texts to/from all customers in one place.
✅ Send messages from your own phone number.
Captivated can usually work with your existing phone # to send/receive texts. In other cases, a local # can be provided for you.
✅ Higher message character limit
When sending through Captivated, Spraye messages support up to 700 characters.
Spraye built-in texting supports a shorter limit (160 characters). (See “Switching back” below for an important note.)
✅ Chrome extension that works alongside Spraye
Captivated offers a Chrome extension that can sit next to Spraye in your browser and can recognize customer phone numbers when you have a customer pulled up. This allows users to:
Text the customer directly
View message history without leaving Spraye screens
What you need before turning it on
You must sign up for Captivated separately and maintain an active subscription with them. You can learn more about Captivated here: https://captivated.works/
Spraye does not charge extra for this integration.
How to enable Captivated in Spraye
In Spraye, go to Settings
Scroll down to the Automated Emails & Text Messages section.
Find the setting to choose your texting method/provider called "Text Message Gateway"
Selected Captivated from the dropdown
Enter your API Key from Captivated (you may need to request this from Captivated)
Enter your "From" phone number that you set up with Captivated (numbers only ... ex: 5552223333)
Save changes
Once enabled, Spraye will begin sending automated text notifications through Captivated.
Text notification templates and merge fields
You will continue using the same text notification templates in Spraye when you switch to Captivated — but you may be able to use more characters and more merge fields depending on the template.
Supported dynamic merge fields
Spraye templates can include dynamic merge fields such as:
{SERVICE_NAME}{SERVICE_PRICE}{PROGRAM_NAME}{PROPERTY_NAME}{PROPERTY_ADDRESS}{SERVICE_NOTES}{SERVICE_DESCRIPTION}{SCHEDULE_DATE}{RESCHEDULED_REASON}
Important: Not every merge field may be allowed for every notification type/template. Always follow the instructions shown on the Text Notification Templates section of the Spraye Settings page for what’s supported in each template.
Switching back to Spraye built-in texting (important)
If you switch back to Spraye built-in texting after using Captivated, you’ll want to review your templates first.
Captivated: 700 character limit
Spraye built-in texting: 160 character limit
If any template is over the Spraye limit when you switch back, messages may be truncated. Before switching back, open Settings → Text Notification Templates and confirm your messages fit within the Spraye character limit.
FAQ
Do I have to rebuild my templates to use Captivated?
No. You can keep using the same Spraye templates — you’re just changing where Spraye sends the texts.
Will every Spraye automated message create a conversation in Captivated?
No. Only messages that get a reply will appear as an active conversation in Captivated, which helps prevent inbox clutter.
Do I need a paid Captivated account?
Yes. Spraye does not charge for the integration, but Captivated requires a separate subscription. You can learn more about Captivated here: https://captivated.works/
